Cooking for Charity

On Tuesday the 22nd of May some of our wonderful Platinum parents took the time to visit Ronald McDonald House, Randwick to cook a Mexican Feast for over 70 residents staying at the house with seriously ill children. What a great effort!!!

National Award Winner!

On Saturday the 21st of April Platinum Pre School was named the winner of the 2012 Australian Small Business Champions Award in the category of child care centres! The Australian Small Business Champions Awards is the largest small business award program in Australia and recognises small businesses on a national level. 

We would like to thank all of the families of our students and the members of our community who have supported the pre school to date. We look forward to the growing impact that we will have on Australia's Early Childhood Education and are proud to be part of such an important industry.

Easter Egg Hunt!!!

It was wonderful to see so many families out this morning for the Platinum Pre School Easter Egg Hunt!!! Everyone was full of Easter spirit and chocolate... by the end of the morning.

Thank you to all who came along to make it such a lovely morning. And a special thank you to Barbara, Renee and the the rest of the parents group for their efforts.

We're a Finalist!!!

We just found out today that Platinum Pre School has been lucky enough to be selected as a Finalist in the 2012 Australian Small Business Champions Awards!


We would like to thank all of the families of our students and everyone else who has kindly supported the pre school since we opened our doors in 2010.

Online Portfolios

We have recently launched Online Student Portfolios for our students allowing parents to log on to a secure portfolio dedicated to their child’s development at pre school. On the portfolios the parents can see photos, videos and audio posts related to the daily educational programmes that their child experiences.
Our teachers easily post to these portfolios using the camera and recording capability of their iPads. This allows parents to instantly see the priceless experiences of their children’s pre school lives only moments after they happen.

Platinum in SunSmart Campaign

Our very own Jo O'Brien represents us and our students in this fantastic SunSmart campaign. Give it a thumbs up if you support SunSmart awareness!

Drummer boys back...

We were very excited today to open the Southern Courier today to find an article about our very own Luca Cogin and his participation in this year's Coogee Carols taking place at 6:30pm this Sunday the 18th. Luca even signed a copy of the article for us!

The Coogee Carols are a great event for all of the community to celebrate the festive season.

Good luck Luca!!!

Christmas Concert!

Thank you to all the families who took the time last week to attend our Christmas Concerts, we were amazed at the amount of people whom attended! 

It was a lovely experience for the children and parents alike, and was a particularly great opportunity for our graduating students to celebrate their time at Platinum with their loved ones.

Thanks ACU

We'd like to thank ACU today for their kind acknowledgement of the great work our teaching staff do to help students studying to become Early Childhood Teachers. We strongly believe that supporting aspiring Early Childhood Teachers by mentoring them and providing enjoyable and educational professional experiences goes a long way in securing that the future of early years education in Australia is guaranteed to be run by highly skilled and passionate educators.

We also see university professional support programmes as a great way for our own centre to be involved with people who are at the cutting edge of early education, which helps keep our finger on the pulse of any new ideas and practices that can benefit the education of our current and future students.

Evacuation Drill

We had a great Evacuation Drill today! The children did very well and evacuated the pre school in an organised and orderly fashion.

Golfing for kids!

Val Young, Ronnie McLean, Phillip Ismay and Ian Martin all represented Platinum Pre School today in the Ronald McDonald House Charity Golf Tournament to help raise money for the fantastic work that the Randwick house does in supporting the families of seriously ill children.

Hope you did well guys!

The Joy of Cooking...

A big thank you to the grandparents of Catie and Mia who came to Platinum this morning to do a very special cooking demonstration for the children. They are visiting from the USA at the moment and took time out of their holiday to come into the pre school to cook 'American Style' choc chip cookies with our students :-)

Teaching cooking to children at a young age is a great and fun way of developing a number of different skills including fine motor skills, literacy, numeracy skills and social skills, to name a few. 

It was a fantastic experience for all the children!!!

Parent's Christmas Party

It was nice to see such a great turnout for the Parent's Christmas Party last night. It was a great opportunity for our parents to catch up and celebrate 2011's pre school year.

Our students have grown so much in the past year and all of their parent's have done such a wonderful job, so it was lovely to see them relaxing and enjoying a very well deserved night out!

Skyping the USA

Our very own Mary Shinkle is on holiday at the moment in the USA visiting her family. Today, she took time out of her break to give us a call on Skype! 

The children were very excited to see a "cinema sized" Mrs. Shinkle on our Smartboard, and to have a chat with her about what she has been doing whilst on holiday. This was a particularly special call for our students as we are studying the USA this week and it gave them an opportunity to tell Mrs. Shinkle about all that they have learned. 

Before Skyping her we had a look at Mrs. Shinkle's old home in Indiana on Google Streetview. If you would like to talk about this at home with your children visit the following link - Mrs. Shinkle's Old Home.

The children sang The Blanket Song for Mrs. Shinkle and then told her about what they had been learning. She was very impressed that they knew that the capital of the USA is Washington and that people in America like to eat hot dogs :-)

After that the children asked Mrs. Shinkle some questions about her trip, some of which were:

Where are you staying on your holiday?

What do people in America grow in their gardens?

Is the USA very different to Australia?

This was a wonderful experience for the children and gave them the opportunity to relate what they are learning to a real life situation, with a person that they are all familiar with.

Thanks so much to our volunteer parents who came in this morning to help out with craft for the new NSW Official Grandparent's Day.

Cancer Council & Platinum Pre School

We were very excited today to receive a promotional pack in the post for The Cancer Council's new SunSmart campaign featuring Platinum Pre School!!!

Based on Platinum's strong focus on SunSmart education and protection for our students we were selected to be the "poster" pre school for their new promotion. This educational pack goes out to all pre schools and long daycare centres in NSW to help promote the importance of being SunSmart.
